Our name

The name Canine Life Support was chosen to emphasize the fact that the organization focuses on providing basic    (medical) care and sterilization and vaccination to stray, community and owned dogs in Sri Lanka. Canine Life Support does not act as a shelter, nor does it export dogs to other countries for rehoming purposes. Life Support means providing the necesary care to live a healthy life.

Our logo

Our logo shows the face of a dog within the Dharmachakra, the wheel of Dharma. The symbol represents Dharma, the Buddha's teaching of the path to enlightenment. It is represented as a chariot wheel (chakram) with eight spokes. The Dharmachakra is recognized globally as a symbol for Buddhism. The eight spokes represent the Noble Eightfold Path of Buddhism. The shape of the circle (chakra) represents the perfection of the Dharma teaching. The hub stands for discipline and the rim, which holds the spokes, refers to mindfulness or samadhi, which holds everything together. The hands holding the Dharmachakra represent the support we provide: helping hands. The hands are cupped, which symbolizes both giving and receiving.

Colors

We use the color orange on printed materials. In Sri Lanka, the Buddhist monks wear saffron robes. Saffron is deep orange in color. The traditional color is from the dye of the jackfruit, which is close to dark orange. In Holland, the color orange comes from the history of the Dutch people and the person that lead them into their independence. William I of Orange organized the Dutch revolt against Spanish rule, which after the Eighty Years' War led to an independent Dutch state.
